Mersing Nguyen's first name was derived from the town of Mersing in Johor, Malaysia. Her parents, Men Hoang and Tue Nguyen gave her that name as a blessing to have fled their native country Vietnam safely. They sought refuge in Malaysia and after a few months boarded a plane with her eleven siblings to Texas. Her High School drama teacher requested that she assist in teaching stage combat and scene studies to freshman-level classes. As a result, Mersing developed an even stronger interest to the stage. Not wanting to disappoint her family, she decided to take science courses in College to study sports medicine. After a few years of being discontent, Mersing left for New York to pursue Off-Broadway work. Having spent two years in New York without landing consistent work and witnessing the events of 911 brought her back home to Texas. Currently residing in Los Angeles and working on her own screenplay.
